It is in the WG Elementary art room I've grown exponentially as an art teacher. While my young artists have learned so much about themselves as artists, I felt
"Ms. R." blossom. Then get to grow into "Mrs. R."
One of my favorite art projects I developed for the young artists is "Changing Colors." It is a wonderful introduction to paint and also shows how I tie studio habits, the creative process, and literature in the art room.

Inspiration:Literature -
I love to use Children's books as a starting point for many of my units/lessons. It may be looking at illustrations, or the books links to the big idea we're working with, or it helps spark an idea. For this unit I read to the students: Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni. |

Out of the Art Room:
One of the most awarding opportunities that come with being an art teacher can happen outside of the art room. Some examples:

REmote Teaching:
So when I was told I had to be at home teaching, I posted some videos talking about some of the Studio Habits we cover in the art room. As well as weekly challenges that I believed any family and any artist could achieve from home. Readjusting and collaborating with parents consistently, until we found a method that worked for all to feel successful. I worked with MyBackPack, Teams, Sways, and emails. Flipgrid would be an application I would love to use in the future should remote learning/teaching continue.
Even with the rapid change that came with COVID-19, my job as an art teacher continued. I found ways to still be the best I could be in the moment. Our department couldn't have an in-person district art show - we worked together to create a virtual experience. As a class we were not able to have critiques in the art room - that's okay students can answer reflections when they submit their work.
It may have been a chaotic moment, but it is from these crazy, unplanned moments that help you grow and adapt.
