1st Grade
Big Idea: Over coming Limitations
For 7 Saturdays the 1st graders and I over came a human lamination by inventing machines, building robots, and designing items to wear.
DAy One:For the first day of SAS, the students created thinking caps that would help them create art for the rest of SAS. We looked at the Leonardo da Vinci's inventions and the work of Justin Gaffrey.
DAy Two: As In this lesson the students created blueprints with a stamping technique. The blueprints where for machines that would give them assistance with whatever they needed. I introduced to the students what blueprints were and we looked at Rowlend Emett's marvelous machines.
DAy Three:With found objects, the students created robots that could help them with a specific task. For inspiration I created a visual aid of images of work from two artist that would with found materials, Tal Avitzur and Michelle Stitzlein.
DAy Four:For the 5th day, the students and I looked at super hero costumes. Then designed our own costumes to adjust our limitation of speed. The students could design something that would allow them to move faster or slower.
DAy Five:To continue on the theme of costumes, the students created masks that could help them overcome the human limitation of sight. I showed the students the work of Jeff Semmerling and examples of masks made for the Carnival of Venice.

DAy Six:In this lesson the students were shown that you should always ask a friend for help by creating exquisite corpes, a game developed by the Surrealist artists. I changed the name to the Exquisite Game and the students where asked to creating "Grizzly-Brizzlies," a name I dubbed these creatures.

DAy Seven:
It was the final Saturday of SAS and the students were going to be able to take home all of their work. To help them be able to keep their work safe from harm the students were given boxes they had to collage construction paper on to camouflage their boxes. I defined what camouflage was and why animals use it. Then I should them the work of Liu Bolin.
the Exhibition:
I organized and planned the exhibition with a peer. I create a display with every piece of art each student created for the first 5 days of SAS. The art work was displayed in the Colacino Gallery at Nazareth and I created a smaller display in the hall way to show all the worksheets the students completed for practice.
